Cutter Project - Virtualized desktops delivering a cost-effective workplace

Thirty years ago a well-known company had the goal of "A PC on every desktop". We think that's out of date: now it should be "The applications you need when and where you want them". And that should be whether in the workplace, at home or on the move.

We specialise in the engineering and management skills needed to deploy Virtualized Desktops, often known as Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or Virtual Desktop Interface (VDI). Not only do our clients gain simpler and more cost-effective systems, many also take advantage of the possibility to securely access their applications and data from anywhere in the world, using PCs, laptops or other mobile devices.

Compared to a traditional PC-based desktop environment typical costs savings run from tens to hundreds of thousands of pounds per year over a three-to-four year period. Typical benefits other than purely financial savings include higher reliability, better data security, happier staff and simplified spares and inventory needs. Whilst hard to put a price on peace of mind it's nonetheless worth having.

At Cutter that's what we focus on. We stick to what we are good at and we concentrate on high-quality engineering and support to make your life easier. We will also tell you when we think you shouldn't replace a PC-based solution because sometimes they are just right for the job you have.

Some of our clients come to us directly, inviting us to build, install and maintain their desktop systems. Others work with us through partners who provide products and services that are outside our specialist area.

A PC is often a poor choice. Compared to alternatives they can be more expensive to manage, more expensive to run and need replacement more often. Cutter Project specialises in alternatives to desktop PCs, replacing them with lower-cost, lower-energy, longer-lived and, most of all, easier to manage systems.

Terms like 'Desktop Virtualization' or the 'Virtualized Desktop' have recently become buzz-words. For us it's not just a passing trend, it's something we do day in and day out (although we do tend to spell it differently, on our side of the Atlantic it's 'Desktop Virtualisation' and 'Virtualised Desktop').
